The Best Vegan Ranch in Alaska

Vegan ranch made with Northern Seitan Vegan Mayo on a spoon

What’s up everyone!? Today I’m going to give you a recipe for the best vegan ranch you’ll ever taste. I’ll also give you some tips to make sure you can customize it just the way you like. But first, let’s talk about the history of Ranch.

History of Ranch

Ranch dressing may be the most popular food product that started in Alaska, though many people don’t know the fact that yes, it started here. It was created by Steve Henson in the early 1950s while he worked as a plumber in Alaska. To make the salads tastier for his crew, he mixed buttermilk, mayonnaise, and herbs.

In 1956, Henson and his wife, Gayle, moved to California and renamed their property Hidden Valley Ranch, where they served the dressing to guests. It became so popular that visitors often asked to take jars home. By 1957, they sold dry dressing mix by mail order, and by the mid-1960s, the guest ranch closed, but the dressing business thrived. They started Hidden Valley Ranch Food Products, Inc., and opened a factory.

In 1972, Clorox bought the brand and recipe for $8 million, and made it with versions using regular milk and a non-refrigerated option in 1983. Ranch dressing's popularity soared, especially after the 1986 launch of Cool Ranch Doritos. By 1992, it became the top-selling salad dressing in the U.S., surpassing Italian dressing.
