Easy Vegan Food: A Simple Guide to our Food Box Subscriptions
Tired of constantly having to make your vegan protein from scratch, or searching for products that exist in the lower 48 but not in Alaska? We got ya’ll. This post will cover our subscription options and the process of signing up for the best vegan food in the state.
This option is something that I wish existed when I first moved to Alaska in 2021, as I found it quite difficult to maintain my plant-based purchasing habits that I had in the city I came from, where you could go nearly anywhere and expect to find tasty vegan options. Now, in the summer of 2025, you have the options I wish I did.

This option is something that I wish existed when I first moved to Alaska in 2021, as I found it quite difficult to maintain my plant-based purchasing habits that I had in the city I came from, where you could go nearly anywhere and expect to find tasty vegan options. Why a Vegan Food Box?
Everyone has their own reasons for maintaining a vegan or plant-based diet, but here are a few reasons why you may want to partner with us to maintain it in Alaska.
Convenience: Save time on planning, shopping, and often even prep. You can be sure to receive several servings of protein each week in one place. Our seitan will save you at least an hour of prep time with our ready-to-eat proteins (once thawed).
Variety and Discovery: We’ll introduce you to new ingredients and recipes you might not otherwise try, or give you access to plant-based versions of things you haven’t gotten to eat in a long time.
Dietary Needs/Restrictions: Every single item we sell is tailored for vegan diets, no need to scrutinize labels for hidden animal-derived ingredients.
Support for Local Small Business: We’re Alaska’s only manufacturer of all of the items we sell, and if we didn’t make them, all of your options would be from the lower-48. The more you support us, the more able we’ll be to increase the availability of local vegan food in the state.
The Sign-Up Journey: Step-by-Step
Research and Comparison
Identify Your Needs: Weekly vs Biweekly, desired number of seitan loaves, and mayo or no mayo.
Comparable Products: Our seitan is in “whole loaf” form, giving you more bang for your buck. Though you won’t be able to find direct comparison products for all of the flavors we offer, you may be able to find “slice”, “crumble”, or patty packaged goods from the following national brands that are some combination of smaller yet more expensive per oz (or gram), less tasty, or less discernable ingredients:
Beyond Meat
Impossible Foods
Upton’s Naturals
Tofurkey
Choosing your Subscription Product
Website Navigation: You can to our subscription options directly at the following link: https://www.northernseitan.com/shop/subscription
Another option is via click-through from our home page. The instructions for that are, from the home page:
Click “Shop” at the top bar.
Click either “Northern Seitan Subscription” or “Northern Seitan Summer Season Subscription”
Quantity Selection: Number of seitan loaves and containers of mayo per week.
Delivery/Pickup Frequency: Weekly or Biweekly. (You can also choose “One time purchase" to try us out)
The Signup Process
Account Creation: Email, password, basic information.
Delivery Address: You will be asked for address for pickup irrespective of delivery/pickup. Due to our system constraints, it needs to have an Alaskan ZIP Code.
Payment Information: Credit card details and billing address
Review & Purchase: Make sure what your details are correct.
What to Expect on Delivery/Pickup Day
Packaging: Your seitan will come in vacuum-sealed bags. Your mayo will come in 8oz containers. Your items can be given to you in boxes/bags or as individual items. Many of our customers prefer to reduce their waste footprint and prefer to use their own bags/containers which we enthusiastically support.
Storage Tips: Your seitan should be kept frozen for maximum shelf-life. It should be thawed under refrigeration. After preparing it for use, be sure to keep it refrigerated in an air-tight container so that it does not dry-out.
Picking up from Wooden Spoons: If you choose the option to pickup from Wooden Spoons during their regular business hours, you will need to ask a staff member for your item(s) from Northern Seitan Company. If you like bagels, I’d highly recommend you get some of theirs while you wait!
Tips for Maximizing Your Experience
Plan Your Meals: If you need ideas, feel free to reach out to us. You can also use our weekly specials for ideas!
Share Your Meals: Let other folks in the various Alaska vegan community groups know how you use our products, and see what they do too.
Give Feedback: Help us improve with your ideas.
